I've always believed in the Army's slogan, “Be All You Can Be,” and I've spent my life putting it into practice.

Over the years, I've launched edgy nightclubs, produced and directed commercial television and experimental video art, designed interiors, furniture and lighting, and earned awards for my Hollywood set designs in entertainment and advertising.

I wasn't entirely sure where all this was leading, but I was determined to conceive of something no one else had and I trusted my gut 100% to get me there.

I don't mind saying at 45 I was getting worried. In 2005, I was awarded a grant to create a large-scale interactive A/V sculpture for the world renown Burning Man Arts festival. I brought everything I'd learned to the project, only to realize months later that I'd unintentionally combined everything I loved into one extraordinary and unique art form.

I'd become everything I'd always wanted to be.
